What makes an AI PC different?
Modern AI PCs add a neural processing unit (NPU) designed to handle certain machine-learning tasks efficiently. Microsoft defines Copilot+ PCs as Windows 11 PCs with a capable NPU and additional hardware/security requirements. The category is broader than one processor brand, and features can vary by device and software support.
Who benefits today?
Local AI acceleration can be useful for video-call effects, image tools, transcription, search and applications that specifically support NPUs. For many buyers, however, traditional priorities—battery life, display, RAM, storage, CPU performance and software compatibility—still matter more than the AI label alone.
Buying advice
Do not pay a large premium just for an “AI PC” badge unless the included features improve your workflow. Check which Copilot+ experiences are available on the device, whether your key applications use the NPU, and whether the system otherwise meets your normal laptop requirements.
